MPs tell of visit to Palestine

Following the fabulously successful Festival of Friendship, June 2010, Leichhardt Friends of Hebron will host  a general meeting to update our friends in the community about our pre-school project and  hear eye- witness accounts of their recent visit to Hebron from NSW Upper House members, Sylvia Hale  and Linda Voltz. The meeting will be held on Sunday 12th September , 2010 at the Annandale Neighbourhood Centre, 79 Johnston St, Annandale  between 3pm and 5pm with light refreshments available.

This will be an opportunity for the community which contributed so generously to help us build a pre-school kindergarten in Umm Al Kheir, an isolated West Bank village near Hebron, to latest update on our kindergarten project; where we’re up to and where to next! The success of the Festival of Friendship in June, together with other donations will allow us to send approximately$5000 to our partner organisation, The Villages Group. The donations are being transferred via the charity Union Aid Abroad – APHEDA which will also help us oversee the project.

The presentation by Lynda Voltz and Sylvia Hale will bring us the latest news from Hebron, as well as other parts of Palestine, including Gaza.  As part of a study tour last month, organised by Australian charity charity Union Aid Abroad – APHEDA, Lynda and Sylvia went to Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine and Israel. Their eye- witness accounts will help us better understand the situation of people living their and the need for us to assist with building this pre-school near Hebron.

Leichhardt Friends of Hebron welcomes all our friends and supporters to come to the meeting, sit down over a cuppa, and discuss how we can best continue our work to help the people of Hebron in Palestine.
