The forum discussion at this year’s festival will be on the hot local topic of boycott, divestment & sanctions aimed at pressurising the State of Israel into respecting human rights and international law. The speakers on this year’s panel will be:
— Peter Slezak, a senior lecturer in philosophy at the University of New South Wales, an occasional public commentator on science, philosophy, religion and politics, and co-founder of Independent Australian Jewish Voices;
— Samah Sabawi, a writer, playwright and human rights and social justice advocate. She was born in Gaza in 1967, just before her family was displaced as a result of Israel’s occupation of the Gaza Strip. Samah is now public advocate for Australians for Palestine in Melbourne;
— Joseph Wakim, OAM, former Victorian Multicultural Affairs Commissioner and founder of the Arabic Australian Council;
— Associate Professor Jake Lynch, PhD (City University, London), Director of the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies (CPACS) at the University of Sydney, an Executive Member of the Sydney Peace Foundation and newly elected Secretary General of the International Peace Research Association, having hosted its Sydney conference in July 2010. He is also a former correspondent for the BBC, The Independent newspaper and Sky News.
